Jumbo sized and pretty athletic, he also featured a fantastic wingspan and good body control. Was very hard to cover or stop in the end zone, and in jump-ball situations. Also had big hands, which allowed him to make tough catches. Was fairly agile for his size and used his frame to get open. Made over-the-shoulder catches in stride. Was not a downfield burner and was not explosive (either in getting separation or as a leaper). Struggled with his route running and blocking. Durability was an issue throughout his career, as he was rarely healthy. Attempted to convert from wide receiver to tight end late in his career.
