'Peanut' usually took on the opposition's No. 1 receiver and often dominated. Was very consistent as a source of interceptions and tackles. Jammed opponents well, and consistently won jump balls. Got the most from his tall, strong frame and was a good hitter who could dislodge the football. Injury woes caught up with him over time, and he lost some of his explosiveness and big-play ability later on in his NFL career. Was not as effective when playing off his receiver than when tightly covering throughout the route, so he was not always great when playing in a zone defense scheme.

Long Range Potential: Excellent, long-lasting Pro Bowl cornerback.
