When at his best, he took charge of the offense and was a confident game manager. Had a very strong arm and was not afraid to air it out. Possessed enough size to see the field well. He was also fairly durable (despite taking a lot of sacks), and relied heavily on his experience. His maturity, decision-making and leadership were questioned throughout his career. Did not get out of trouble well enough when pressured, and he generally forced things too often. Despite his strong arm he lacked touch on deep throws, curbing his production in the end zone.
