JEDD GYORKO JETTISONED TO LA
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired infielder Jedd Gyorko, international bonus pool money in 2019-20 and cash from the St. Louis Cardinals for pitchers Tony Cingrani and Jeffry Abreu.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
This seems like a bit of a dart throw by the Dodgers, as Gyorko was recently transferred to the 60-day IL due to a back injury. He has also struggled mightily when healthy this season (.196 BA in just 56 AB). Do not expect him to be a factor in the pennant race this year. The Dodgers also added some money to sign international free agents in the next two tears and some cash to cover Gyorko's contract.
What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
Cingrani is a serviceable left-handed reliever when healthy, but he is out for the 2019 campaign after undergoing shoulder surgery in June. Furthermore, he can become a free agent in the off-season, so this trade for St. Louis was more about adding Abreu, a 19-year-old right-hander pitching in Rookie ball at the moment. He offers upside, albeit that of the long-range variety for the Cardinals.
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact here. Gyorko and Cingrani are injured and Abreu is several years away from reaching the keeper-league radar, so move it along.
