MOUSTAKAS MOVES TO LA (ANGELS)
The Los Angeles Angels acquired infielder Mike Moustakas from the Colorado Rockies for pitcher Connor Van Scoyoc.
What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
Moustakas is the second infielder the Angels have added this week. The left-handed hitter is having a bounce-back season in 2023. Similar to Eduardo Escobar, he will add depth to the Angels infield because of all of their injuries. He is most likely to form a platoon at first base in the short term.
What does it give the Colorado Rockies
Van Scoyoc had been pitching in High-A ball for the Halos, sporting a 2.76 earned-run average and 56 strikeouts in 62 innings. He was drafted in 2018 and still seems to have a long road ahead of him before the Rockies can consider him a big-league option. Still, he is a decent addition in exchange for Moustakas.
Fantasy impact
Monitor Moustakas with Los Angeles. If he continues to receive lots of at-bats (probably mostly against right-handed pitching), he could become a good bench option for many fantasy teams. Van Scoyoc is off the fantasy radar for the foreseeable future, as are most Rockies pitchers and pitching prospects due to their hitter-friendly ballpark.
