HEDGES HEADED TO TEXAS
The Texas Rangers acquired catcher Austin Hedges from the Pittsburgh Pirates for international bonus pool money.
What does it give the Texas Rangers
Ever since Jonah Heim was placed on the injured list, the Rangers were in need of a catcher. They found one in Hedges. He offers very little offense but is known for his superb glove. He may team with Mitch Garver behind the plate until Heim returns.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates had a logjam at catcher with Henry Davis and Endy Rodriguez now both in the major leagues. This move gives those two players more at-bats, while giving Pittsburgh more money to spend on international free agents.
Fantasy impact
Hedges is a defensive player and offers no fantasy value. The major impact here is giving more at-bats to Davis and Rodriguez, increasing both players' value.
