The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired pitcher Marco Gonzales and cash from the Atlanta Braves for a player to be named later.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
Gonzales should help the Pirates' pitching staff far more than he would have helped Atlanta. In fact, he should have a spot in Pittsburgh's rotation in 2024. He is a good left-hander coming off a bad, injury-plagued campaign. Expect a rebound.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves
The Braves recently acquired Gonzales from Seattle as a salary dump by the Mariners, so it is not surprising that he was moved again. There was no room for Gonzales in Atlanta, so they did the right thing by moving him on.
Fantasy impact
Gonzales should rebound from a shaky 2023 season if he can stay healthy. He should be worth a late-round flier in many fantasy leagues this upcoming year.
