RANGERS LAND FIELDER FOR KINSLER
The Detroit Tigers acquired infielder Ian Kinsler from the Texas Rangers for first baseman Prince Fielder and cash.
What does it give the Detroit Tigers
This deal is a blockbuster of epic proportions, and it should help both teams. The Rangers were desperate to add some power and run production to their lineup, so Fielder should greatly help. He'll also enjoy the friendlier confines of Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, as opposed to the pitcher-friendly Comerica Park in Detroit. Texas also receives cash in this deal to help pay the rest of Fielder's mammoth contract. This move also places first baseman {P Mitch Moreland} on the bench, and gives promising infielder {P Jurickson Profar} a chance to shine as the Rangers' new second baseman.
What does it give the Texas Rangers
The Tigers get a significant upgrade at second base with Kinsler, who has both power and speed. He could become the team's new leadoff hitter. This move may also lead to some lineup shuffling, too. American League MVP {P Miguel Cabrera} could go back to first base, which would open up the hot corner for top prospect {P Nick Castellanos}. Or, Detroit may keep Cabrera at third base, use Castellanos in left field and search for a new first baseman. Either way, the Tigers save money here (which will likely go to Cabrera's new extension, eventually). This is a great deal all-round.
Fantasy impact
Fielder's numbers should go up in Arlington, so his fantasy value takes a big leap here. Kinsler's power numbers may dip a little in Detroit, but his overall fantasy value remains strong as the potential new leadoff man for one of the best offenses in baseball. The two biggest winners in this deal, however, could be Profar and Castellanos...two supreme prospects who are ready to become everyday contributors.
