JONATHON SIMMONS SENT TO WASHINGTON
The Washington Wizards acquired forward/guards Admiral Schofield and Jonathon Simmons from the Philadelphia 76ers for cash.
What does it give the Washington Wizards
The Wizards are thin at the wing positions, so it does make some sense to add Schofield here. The 42nd pick in this year's draft, Schofield is a small forward/shooting guard who has a better chance to become a rotation member with the Wizards than had he stayed in the City of Brotherly Love. As for Simmons, he was a severe underachiever in Philadelphia during his brief stay there. He is not expected to remain in Washington for long, as he may be released.
What does it give the Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers created as much salary space as possible by agreeing to send Simmons' non-guaranteed contract (worth $6.66 million) to Washington in this transaction. It cost Philadelphia Schofield, one of their second-round picks in the 2019 NBA Draft, but it placed the Sixers in a much better position to re-sign forward Tobias Harris and land veteran big man Al Horford from the rival Boston Celtics as a free agent. This trade helped in that regard.
Fantasy impact
Simmons was never a great fantasy option but he bottomed out during his time in Philadelphia. Look for him to rebound slightly wherever he plays in 2019-20, but he is still not worthy of being drafted in most league formats. As for Schofield, he too has limited upside from a fantasy standpoint.
