KEVIN PORTER JR. JETTISONED TO CLEVELAND
The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired guard Kevin Porter Jr. from the Detroit Pistons for a second-round draft pick in 2020, a second-round draft pick in 2021, a second-round draft pick in 2023, a protected second-round draft pick in 2024 and cash.
What does it give the Cleveland Cavaliers
Obviously, the Cavaliers believe Porter Jr. is the real deal and can become a big part of their future. That is why they shipped four second-rounders and cash to Detroit in order to secure his services. Look for the 19-year-old shooting guard to play as a rookie, providing scoring off the Cleveland bench. He is one of the most intriguing prospects from the class of '19.
What does it give the Detroit Pistons
The Pistons likely had far greater reservations regarding Porter Jr., in particular his disciplinary issues. So, they took back four second-rounders and cash in this transaction (which is a significant haul in exchange for a late-first-round rookie). Detroit, like Cleveland, is rebuilding so extra draft picks down the road can only help the franchise moving forward.
Fantasy impact
Porter Jr. should be a name to file away for the later rounds of most fantasy drafts this year. He is likely behind starting guards Collin Sexton and Darius Garland, while veteran Jordan Clarkson may also play ahead of him, but Porter Jr. should be able to carve out steady minutes. His upside is quite high, so he is worth the risk.
