THUNDER, WIZARDS SWAP FOUR
The Oklahoma City Thunder acquired forward Admiral Schofield and guard/forward Vit Krejci from the Washington Wizards for guard Cassius Winston and a second-round draft pick in 2024.
What does it give the Oklahoma City Thunder
In Schofield, the Thunder land a forward who has yet to make his mark in the NBA after being selected 42nd overall in 2019. He is a bit undersized for a power forward role, and a bit too beefy for the small forward position. Oklahoma City must find a way to maximize what he does well. If they do, Schofield may become a part of the Thunder rotation in 2020-21. As for Krejci, he is a Czech wing with some upside. He will probably spend a few more seasons honing his skills overseas.
What does it give the Washington Wizards
In Winston, the Wizards acquire a solid (albeit somewhat undersized) point guard who might be able to carve out a niche as a backup at the highest level. He is headed to a team with issues at the point, since veteran John Wall has had trouble staying healthy. Winston might compete with journeyman Ish Smith right away to serve as Wall's backup in 2020-21. The Wiz also get back a future second-rounder to complete this deal. They gave up on Schofield early, but he did not fit in their long-term plans.
Fantasy impact
For now, Schofield, Winston and especially Krejci should only be selected in keeper formats this year. None of them are expected to make an impact in 2020-21. Keep an eye on them. Krejci may have the most upside of the three, but he may also be furthest away from playing regularly in the NBA.
