PORTER JR. HEADED TO HOUSTON
The Houston Rockets acquired guard/forward Kevin Porter Jr. from the Cleveland Cavaliers for a future protected second-round draft pick.
What does it give the Houston Rockets
Porter Jr. is an immense talent but he also has a few issues that he needs to iron out in order to become a quality NBA performer on a regular basis. He has also had a lot of trouble staying healthy in the early days of his career. That all said, Houston is getting a potential star here (if he can put it all together).
What does it give the Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers traded four second-round draft picks and cash to Detroit to acquire Porter Jr. in 2019, so clearly they did not receive enough back in return here. However, Porter Jr. had become difficult to deal with inside the Cleveland locker room, so he had to go. The Cavs may one day regret this deal.
Fantasy impact
With James Harden now in Brooklyn and Russell Westbrook now in Washington, the Rockets need a new superstar guard to build around. Might that player be Porter Jr.? Because of his potential, fantasy leaguers could do worse than to give him a chance (in those leagues with extra bench spots).
