GOLDEN STATE PICKS UP PAUL!
The Golden State Warriors acquired guard Chris Paul from the Washington Wizards for guards Jordan Poole and Ryan Rollins, forward Patrick Baldwin Jr., a second-round draft pick in 2027 and a protected first-round draft pick in 2030.
What does it give the Golden State Warriors
In Paul, the Warriors are getting a, er, warrior. Paul is a true leader and one of the best point guards to ever play in the NBA. He is now on the downside of his career, so winning is all that motivates him. In Golden State, he might back up superstar guards Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. Or, the team may decided to go small and have all three in the starting lineup.
What does it give the Washington Wizards
For Washington, this trade is a no-brainer. After acquiring Paul from Phoenix in the massive Bradley Beal trade, the Wizards added several more assets by moving Paul here. Poole should be the key to the deal, as he may become Washington's first or second option in '23-24. Rollins and Baldwin Jr. may also benefit from this deal, as they were spare parts in San Francisco.
Fantasy impact
Paul's fantasy value is probably on the decline, especially if he comes off the bench in Golden State. He is no longer a recommendable fantasy option. Poole's value is going in the opposite direction; pick him up in the middle rounds and hope for the best. For now, Baldwin Jr. and Rollins are not worthy of being drafted in most leagues.
