GAFFORD GOES TO DALLAS
The Dallas Mavericks acquired center Daniel Gafford from the Washington Wizards for center Richaun Holmes and a first-round draft pick in 2024.
What does it give the Dallas Mavericks
This is a solid move by Dallas, who have added two big men at the trade deadline (P.J. Washington from Charlotte is the other). Gafford could start at center for the Mavericks or come off the bench. He is an upgrade at the No. 5 spot.
What does it give the Washington Wizards
For the Wizards, getting another first-round pick in this year's draft is the key to the deal. Holmes is a serviceable replacement for Gafford at the center spot, but he probably does not have a long-term future with the franchise.
Fantasy impact
Gafford was already a solid fantasy center, and he should remain a decent player in Dallas. His points may go down with the Mavs, but his rebounds could rise. As for Holmes, he is not to be trusted as a veteran on a team out of the playoff picture.
