RODRIGUEZ HEADS TO SACTO
The Sacramento Kings acquired guard Sergio Rodriguez, the 38th pick in the 2009 draft and cash considerations from the Portland Trail Blazers for the 31st pick in the 2009 draft.
What does it give the Sacramento Kings
This has to be seen as a steal for the Kings. Not only do they get a potential star to run their offense in the sweet-passing Rodriguez, but they add cash and a solid role player in Brockman, taken with the lower draft pick. They take on a bit of salary in the deal, but not so much that it outweighs the talent they receive. A nice trade for the Kings, especially since Rodriguez has the chance to be their next Jason Williams.
What does it give the Portland Trail Blazers
The Blazers cut a little salary here, but this isn't a great trade for them. Rodriguez has his flaws but he is also one of the NBA's most gifted natural passers, and point guard is one area where the Blazers still have question marks. The switch of second-round draft picks lands them gritty rebounder Pendergraph, and while he'll help out in the paint, he's not a big upgrade over Brockman, who has very similar skills.
