HORNETS SAVE MONEY BY MOVING ARMSTRONG
The Sacramento Kings acquired forward Hilton Armstrong and cash from the New Orleans Hornets for a conditional 2016 second-round pick.
What does it give the Sacramento Kings
Armstrong is a very low-risk flier here for the Kings. As the No.12 overall pick of the 2006 NBA Draft he obviously still has some untapped potential, and with the cash the Kings get in this deal, they don't have to worry about the rest of his expiring $2.8 Million deal. At the worst Armstrong will provide some fouls off the bench, but there's a chance he can help shore up the team's erratic post corps for the rest of the season. A nice minor move by the Kings.
What does it give the New Orleans Pelicans
New Orleans would have had to not only pay the rest of Armstrong's $2.8 Million salary this season, but would have had to match his salary in luxury tax if they'd kept him on the roster. So this is essentially a cost-cutting move, and only lose a little depth (since Armstrong is a longtime underachiever who barely played for the team). The Hornets are now under $1 Million over the NBA's salary cap of $69.9 Million.
