GRIZZLIES GRAB EMMETT

The Memphis Grizzlies acquired the rights to Andre Emmett from the Seattle SuperSonics for a future second-round draft pick and cash considerations.

What does it give the Memphis Grizzlies
Another talented swingman who may not make the team. It's interesting the Grizzlies picked up Emmett since he's, in many ways, the clone of a player they already have: Bonzi Wells. Emmett is long and strong, and plays much bigger than his (reported) 6-5 frame. He knows how to post up other guards and understands the value of getting to the hoop and the free-throw line. Emmett isn't as talented as Wells, and with so much depth on the Grizz he'll have a tough time breaking into Hubie Brown's 10-man rotation. Still, his addition might signal a trade by GM Jerry West, so keep an eye on what the Grizzlies do in the next little while. They don't need another guard.

What does it give the Seattle SuperSonics
A little help in their pocket-book for off-season moves. By letting Brent Barry go, adding cash and not having to pay Emmett, the Sonics have the cap room to grab a quality free agent (if not a star). Look for them to make a sneaky-good free agent signing in the near future.
