CAROLINA CATCHES TORREY SMITH FROM PHILLY
The Carolina Panthers acquired wideout Torrey Smith from the Philadelphia Eagles for cornerback Daryl Worley.
What does it give the Carolina Panthers
Smith is a proven starting wideout who has shown he can be very productive in the right situation. Last season with the Eagles obviously wasn't the right situation for him, but this deal gives him a fresh chance to show he can still play like a star. Expect him to compete with Curtis Samuel for a starting job with the Panthers.
What does it give the Philadelphia Eagles
Worley is a starter-level young cornerback with a super-affordable contract, so this is a nice pickup for a Philly team that's still a Super Bowl contender. Moreover, the Eagles save a nice chunk of salary in moving Smith's more-expensive contract, and they can use that money for other off-season changes. Smith became expendable in Philly due to the emergence of Nelson Agholor.
Fantasy impact
There isn't likely much fantasy impact here, since Smith is an aging wideout coming off three straight unproductive seasons. That said, give him a slight boost in sleeper appeal due to his change of scenery. On the Philly side, look for Agholor to continue his emergence as a fantasy factor.
