STEELERS SEND QB DOBBS TO JACKSONVILLE
The Jacksonville Jaguars acquired quarterback Joshua Dobbs from the Pittsburgh Steelers for a fifth-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the Jacksonville Jaguars
The broken clavicle suffered by Jaguars starting quarterback Nick Foles in Week 1 forced the team to make this trade. In Dobbs, the Jags land a young arm (24 years old) who has plenty of untapped potential. He will back up rookie Gardner Minshew II until Foles recovers from injury and might see some action if Minshew II struggles as the team's No. 1 signal caller.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers did well to get a fifth-rounder in exchange for their third-string quarterback. Dobbs lost the backup job to Mason Rudolph during training camp, so Pittsburgh brass deemed the former expendable. The injury to Foles opened the door for the Steelers to make the deal with the Jaguars. Ben Roethlisberger remains entrenched as the starting QB.
Fantasy impact
For now, Dobbs should only be picked up in leagues as a handcuff to Minshew II and/or Foles, but he has some sneaky dark horse appeal. He can also be picked up in deeper formats or leagues that utilize two starting QBs.
