BALTIMORE BRINGS IN CALAIS CAMPBELL
The Baltimore Ravens acquired defensive end/defensive tackle Calais Campbell from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a fifth-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the Baltimore Ravens
The defensive line in Baltimore should be even better with veteran Campbell now on board. He will likely play end opposite Brandon Williams and allow the Ravens to play more snaps with three defensive linemen (and even more with two). Surrendering a fifth-round pick for Campbell (who turns 34 in September) seems like a good move for a Baltimore team that may be on the cusp of a Super Bowl appearance.
What does it give the Jacksonville Jaguars
For the Jaguars, this deal makes sense because the savings they will receive from moving Campbell may allow them to re-sign franchise player Yannick Ngakoue (also a defensive end) to a multiyear contract extension this off-season. To replace Campbell opposite Ngakoue, the Jags may either look to free agency to fill the gap or turn to Josh Allen (drafted seventh overall in 2019).
Fantasy impact
Campbell could get a boost in sacks with the move to Baltimore, though he is starting to get up there in age. He is not an automatic draft choice in IDP leagues this year. As for Allen, his stock should get a nice boost from this trade.
