INDY DEALS FOR DeFOREST BUCKNER
The Indianapolis Colts acquired defensive tackle DeForest Buckner from the San Francisco 49ers for a first-round draft pick in 2020 (No. 13 overall).
What does it give the Indianapolis Colts
The Colts were only average defensively in 2019, so the hope here is that Buckner can step in and make an impact right away. He is both a run stuffer and a pass rusher, so he should be good for Indianapolis. Look for Buckner to play the U tackle role with the Colts. Indy seems to be in somewhat of a win-now mode right now.
What does it give the San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers can only keep so many quality defensive players, so Buckner was sacrificed. San Francisco recently re-signed defensive end Arik Armstead to a five-year contract extension, which likely sealed Buckner's fate. Solomon Thomas could return to the starting lineup as Buckner's replacement at defensive tackle.
Fantasy impact
Buckner was surrounded by dominant defensive players in San Francisco, which will no longer be the case in Indy. Therefore, expectations for Buckner in terms of quarterback sacks need to be tempered heading into 2020. He is not a recommendable IDP league draft selection at this time.
