TRENT WILLIAMS TO THE NINERS!
The San Francisco 49ers acquired offensive tackle Trent Williams from the Washington Redskins for a fifth-round draft pick in 2020 and a third-round draft pick in 2021.
What does it give the San Francisco 49ers
Considered by many to be the best left tackle in football, Williams heads to the team that came within a game of winning it all last season. The Niners already boast two quality offensive tackles in Joe Staley (LT) and Mike McGlinchey (RT), so obviously more moves are forthcoming along San Francisco's O-line. Adding Williams may be what propels San Fran back to the Super Bowl this upcoming campaign.
What does it give the Washington Commanders
It was only a matter of time before Williams was sent packing, but he was expected to go earlier than this (and for a larger return, and to a different team). That all said, Washington can finally move on from this cloud that had been hanging over the franchise for quite some time. The Redskins are starting a new era with a new head coach (Ron Rivera) and a young nucleus, but they could have used more in return here.
Fantasy impact
This changes little in terms of the fantasy value of various 49ers offensive players, since they were already solid along the O-line. Williams will simply make them that much better. As for the Redskins, it was a major long shot that Williams would remain in D.C. this season, so not much will change in terms of fantasy expectations for most of Washington's offensive fantasy options in 2020.
