DeSHAUN WATSON DEALT TO CLEVELAND!
The Cleveland Browns acquired quarterback DeShaun Watson and a sixth-round draft pick in 2024 from the Houston Texans for a first-round draft pick in 2022 (No. 13 overall), a fourth-round draft pick in 2022 (No. 107 overall), a first-round draft pick in 2023, a third-round draft pick in 2023, a first-round draft pick in 2024 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2024.
What does it give the Cleveland Browns
It is telling that an NFL team would rather gamble on Watson's legal issues over sticking with their own former No. 1 overall draft pick. The Browns see Watson as a true franchise quarterback, so they gave up a ton of future assets to get him--despite the fact they still have Baker Mayfield on the roster. The latter is expected to be traded shortly, although he is an insurance policy in case Watson lands on the NFL's suspended list for some of 2022.
What does it give the Houston Texans
The Texans were always expected to trade Watson, but few believed that any NFL team would meet their asking price of three first-round picks. Houston got that and more: three firsts, two fourths and a third. The Texans probably had the option of taking Mayfield back in this deal, but will instead go with second-year quarterback Davis Mills under center. Houston is also a good bet to take a quarterback with one of their first three picks in this year's draft.
Fantasy impact
Watson is a fantasy keeper when he is on the field, so draft him if he is available to play right away in 2022. If he is suspended by the league, he is still going to be a high draft pick in most formats. He just might not be a good keeper bet at that point.
