AVS, PREDS SWAP 'TENDERS
The Colorado Avalanche acquired goaltender Scott Wedgewood from the Nashville Predators for goaltender Justus Annunen and a sixth-round draft pick in 2025.
What does it give the Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche have been receiving shaky goaltending so far this season, so the hope is that Wedgewood can provide a little bit of relief. That said, he is mainly a backup netminder. He is unlikely to challenge current starter Alexandar Georgiev, so perhaps there will be more moves to come by Colorado?
What does it give the Nashville Predators
For Nashville, who have disappointed early on this season, this move is essentially an admittance that signing Wedgewood this past summer was a mistake. The Predators decided to let Kevin Lankinen go via free agency, and also traded away prospect Yaroslav Askarov. Annunen is next up to back up Juuse Saros.
Fantasy impact
Wedgewood could see more action in Denver than behind Saros in Nashville, so he might be worth picking up in some fantasy leagues. As for Annunen, whatever speculative value he may have had as a backup in Colorado is now gone.
