FOLIGNO HEADS TO JACKETS FOR METHOT

The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired forward Nick Foligno from the Ottawa Senators for defenseman Marc Methot.

What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
A tough customer and an above-average scoring forward, Foligno is a bit of a steal here for Columbus (considering his production and Methot's lack of durability). Look for Foligno to slot in on one of the Blue Jackets' top two lines, and be a potential leader with the young and rebuilding Jackets early on. He will be a restricted free agent next season, so Columbus gets a year to audition and make a decision on him.

What does it give the Ottawa Senators
The Sens need a player like Methot right now: a big, strong, stay-at-home rearguard with veteran leadership ability (since many of their current core d-men of the offensive variety and/or very young). Injuries are always a concern with Methot, but he's effective when healthy. Even better, Methot is an Ottawa native so should be a hit with the home fans. The Senators give up a good player in Foligno to get him, but Methot fills a key need. Recent signee {P Guillaume Latendresse} should step in to replace Foligno on the second line.
