SLEGERS SENT TO TAMPA BAY
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired pitcher Aaron Slegers from the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
Since Slegers can both start and relieve, this might be the ideal situation for him (since the Rays often use starters and relievers interchangeably at the big-league level). For now, he will pitch at Triple-A Durham but could see time in MLB relatively soon in 2019.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pirates designated Slegers for assignment recently, so they did well to at least get back some money from Tampa Bay in this transaction. Slegers was claimed off waivers from Minnesota in the off-season, but the Bucs clearly did not see enough upside to keep him.
Fantasy impact
There is nothing to see here at this point, as Slegers will pitch in the minors for the foreseeable future. Once he makes his way to Tampa Bay, he should monitored to see how he is being used by the Rays before anything else.
