Verlander (shoulder) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list and is starting Friday against the Nationals.
Astros manager Joe Espada said Wednesday that Verlander (shoulder) will make his season debut Friday against the Nationals, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
The big right-hander can still pop the radar gun on occasion with a quick, compact delivery, while also featuring devastating off-speed stuff. Eats up a lot of innings and saves his best work for crunch time. Surrenders a few too many homers. Also, his fastball tends to straighten out a bit too much from time to time. His heavy workload is starting to affect him, as he is not nearly as dominant as he used to be.
Long Range Potential: Quality, veteran big-game starter.
