Grier will play the entire game Saturday against the Raiders in the Cowboys' preseason finale, but he's been told he won't make the team in the wake of the Trey Lance trade, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Grier completed 22 of 31 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in Saturday's preseason loss to the Jaguars. He added 14 rushing yards on his lone carry.
He is a polished graduate of QB finishing school as an accomplished starter in both high school and college. Carries himself with confidence and projects the aura of leadership desired from the position and validated by his results. Has just adequate height and arm strength for the NFL; he makes all the required throws when set and loves to take vertical shots. Is mobile but not quick enough to scramble out of danger, which results in sacks and turnovers when under pressure. May be limited to being a midrange passer at the top level. Needs to tidy up his mechanics and unload more quickly against pro coverage.
Long Range Potential: Depth quarterback.
