Mattison rushed nine times for 36 yards in the Raiders' 41-24 loss to the Bengals on Sunday.
Coach Antonio Pierce said Wednesday that Mattison will remain the starting RB, but Pierce also wants to get Zamir White more involved, Levi Edwards of the Raiders' official site reports.
His calculated running style may appear to compensate for a relatively modest skill set but he gets where he needs to go--most of the time. A terrific all-around athlete with wrestling and track credits in college, he has proven rugged enough to handle every-down duty while also contributing to the passing game as a release option out of the backfield. Typically waits for his blocking to set up; he hits the hole with conviction and approaches defenders head on. Could enhance his longevity odds by minimizing major collisions. Also, he is one gear short of being a true burner.
Long Range Potential: Tough, versatile running back with upside.
