PHILLIES ADD NESHEK TO THE BULLPEN

The Philadelphia Phillies acquired pitcher Pat Neshek from the Houston Astros for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
Neshek adds a veteran bullpen arm to a relatively young pitching staff. He could be an option for the ninth or eighth innings in Philadelphia, though he is best suited for the role of situational right-hander due to his quirky delivery (he is very tough on right-handed batters).

What does it give the Houston Astros
The Astros were not willing to exercise Neshek's contract option for 2017 ($6.5 million), so they did the next-best thing by sending him to Philadelphia for a player to be named later. The future asset is a good return for a player who is now closer to 40 years old than 30.

Fantasy impact
Neshek will only have fantasy value in 2017 if he is used as the Phillies' main closer or setup man. Otherwise, his stock drops after this move to the Phillies.
