CALLASPO FOR BUCKNER

The Kansas City Royals acquired infielder Alberto Callaspo from the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitcher Billy Buckner.

What does it give the Kansas City Royals
Callaspo has had issues on and off the field but he is still a solid hitting prospect. He's probably best suited to second base but can also play shortstop, third base and possibly even the outfield. Callaspo may challenge Esteban German for the utility job, but don't be surprised if he poses a threat to Tony Pena's starting job at shortstop.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Buckner is a serviceable arm that could see significant time in Arizona in 2008. He's probably more suited for long or middle relief but may even be a candidate for the No. 5 starter job. Buckner has decent upside at only 24 years old, but is far from a dominant pitching prospect.
