Lopez provides the Brew Crew with a legitimate second baseman and leadoff man, which they were lacking since the injury to Rickie Weeks. If he gets on base often and makes things happen on the bases, he could be an impact player in Milwaukee.
What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks have had a disastrous campaign, so they're starting to plan for next year already. Gillespie is the key to the deal here, though he isn't a sure bet to become an everyday big-leaguer. Mercedes is a project. With Lopez gone, Ryan Roberts takes over at second base.
