NATIONALS ADD LEFT-HANDER ENNY ROMERO

The Washington Nationals acquired pitcher Enny Romero from the Tampa Bay Rays for pitcher Jeffrey Rosa.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
Romero is an upgrade for the Nationals' bullpen, and he is expected to be used in a setup role in 2017. His acquisition will allow Washington to utilize veteran lefty Oliver Perez in a situational role. Sammy Solis could make the club as its third lefty out of the 'pen. The Nats now boast better overall depth in the bullpen.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
Trading a player like Romero, at the height of his value, is something Tampa Bay has done well over the years. In return the Rays get Rosa, a 21-year-old pitcher who has not done much so far in his pro career. The Rays hope he can put it together and become a quality pitching prospect for them. It is a bit of a long shot.

Fantasy impact
Romero's value should increase in Washington, where he is expected to see far more opportunities for holds (and also a few saves) in 2017. As for Rosa, he is a pitcher to watch for in the coming seasons. There is no reason to own his rights yet, however.
