RAYS TAKE A CHANCE ON CATCHER SUCRE

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired catcher Jesus Sucre from the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays will head to spring training with veteran Wilson Ramos expected to be the team's starting catcher in 2017. That said, Sucre has a chance to earn the backup job with a strong spring performance. His main competition will come from Luke Maile and Curt Casali.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners had recently designated Sucre for assignment, so they gladly accept a future asset here in return. The Mariners will head to spring training with Mike Zunino, Carlos Ruiz, Tuffy Gosewisch and others in a battle for roster spots and playing time this season.

Fantasy impact
Sucre does not have much in the way of fantasy value for 2017, even if he manages to win a regular job in Tampa Bay this season. Pass.
