BUCS BRING IN UTILITY INFIELDER GOSSELIN

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired infielder Phil Gosselin from the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitcher Frank Duncan.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Bucs were in the market for a new utility infielder, so Gosselin has a chance to fill that role in 2017. He will likely play all over the infield and provides a little depth and insurance at third base (where prospective starter Jung Ho Kang faces a court case).

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks designated Gosselin for assignment recently in order to sign fellow utility infielder Daniel Descalso, a left-handed batter with a better bat than Gosselin. So, Arizona did the deal for Duncan, a versatile right-hander with very little upside.

Fantasy impact
Neither Gosselin nor Duncan have much in the way of fantasy value, so there is nothing to see here. If Kang is forced to miss time, David Freese will likely play third base (ahead of Gosselin).
