The Rangers are deep in relievers at this point, but Gamboa could be an interesting possibility if he can crack the roster out of spring training. That is because he throws a knuckleball, which might give him an edge this spring.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays had designated Gamboa for assignment recently, so they are merely happy to accept a future asset or cash from the Rangers at this point. The veteran Gamboa was not expected to make Tampa Bay's roster in 2017.

Gamboa may find a niche in Texas, but his fantasy value is virtually negligible at this point in his career.
