SEATTLE SWINGS DEAL FOR DE JONG
The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Chase De Jong from the Los Angeles Dodgers for infielder Drew Jackson and pitcher Aneurys Zabala.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
De Jong is a promising pitching prospect with starting potential for the big leagues. He is a nice acquisition for a Mariners team that looks revamped and ready to contend in the American League West this season. De Jong should see time in Seattle at some point in 2017.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
Jackson is a pretty good prospect, though still quite raw and unrefined. He has the ability to play both shortstop and second base, so he gives the Dodgers more options for their future infield. Zabala is 20 years old and will need time to develop, but displays raw talent.
Fantasy impact
De Jong's fantasy value should remain intact, despite the trade away from the Dodgers organization. That's because Seattle plays in as friendly a pitchers' park at Safeco Field as Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. He should definitely be considered as a mid-round pick in most keeper leagues. Jackson also has value in keeper leagues, but he is still awhile away from reaching the bigs. Ditto Zabala, who appears destined for a bullpen role at the highest level. Therefore, he needs to prove he can close out games in the minors in order to maximize his fantasy value in MLB.
