BUCS ADD SNYDER IN FIVE-PLAYER SWAP

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired catcher Chris Snyder, infielder Pedro Ciriaco and cash from the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitcher D.J. Carrasco, infielder Bobby Crosby and outfielder Ryan Church.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Pirates
The Bucs landed two players who may start for them in 2011. Snyder upgrades the catching position, which could allow the club to move Ryan Doumit to the outfield. Ciriaco is a decent shortstop prospect who may win the job outright next spring. Pittsburgh also got some money to cover Snyder's contract. All in all, this was a solid move for the Bucs.

What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
The D'backs get some relief help in Carrasco, who should become a far more important bullpen man in Arizona, who are starving for relief help this year. Crosby and Church figure to be bench players with the D'backs, much as they were in Pittsburgh. Overall, this was a cost-cutting move for 'Zona.
