ORIOLES ADD ASHER FOR PITCHING DEPTH

The Baltimore Orioles acquired pitcher Alec Asher from the Philadelphia Phillies for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles have issues with their starting rotation, so it is a good idea to take a shot at a few candidates from other organizations. Asher is still only 25 years old, and he performed well in five big-league starts for the Phillies last season. Therefore, don't be surprised to see him in Baltimore's rotation at some point in 2017.

What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
Asher's bad spring training performance likely sealed his fate with the Phillies, since he entered the Grapefruit League season with a chance to make the rotation (or bullpen). Still, Philadelphia did not receive much in return for his services. Perhaps they simply wanted to undo a bit of their logjam in pitching prospects.

Fantasy impact
Asher is probably better off in the National League, but he may get more opportunities to start now that he is with Baltimore. He is not an automatic fantasy addition in most league formats, but rather someone who should stay on the fantasy radar moving forward.
