O'S TAKE A CHANCE ON MIGUEL CASTRO

The Baltimore Orioles acquired pitcher Miguel Castro from the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named later.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
The 22-year-old Castro was a top pitching prospect with the Blue Jays not long ago, but he has fallen on hard times recently. The Rockies gave up on him prematurely, so Baltimore did well to pick up this talented (yet erratic) arm. Castro had been groomed as a closer but may return to starting for Baltimore. He will begin his Orioles career in single-A ball.

What does it give the Colorado Rockies
For the Rockies, it was a puzzling decision to designate the young Castro for assignment recently, and (predictably) they did not receive much in return via trade. Castro was being used as a reliever by Colorado, but perhaps they should have tried using him as a starter once again before discarding so quickly. Always in need of pitching, the Rox may regret this one.

Fantasy impact
Castro's immediate fantasy fortunes are negligible, since he will probably take the long road back to the majors. However, if he returns to starting (instead of pitching out of the bullpen), his long-range stock should once again be on the rise.
