OAKLAND LANDS DEPTH OUTFIELDER LAMARRE

The Oakland Athletics acquired outfielder Ryan LaMarre from the Los Angeles Angels for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

What does it give the Oakland Athletics
LaMarre is a former second-round draft pick (by Cincinnati in 2010) so he has some talent. That said, he's an aging prospect (28 years old) and isn't much of a hitter, so he projects as organizational outfield depth for the A's. Then again, LaMarre does have excellent speed and versatility in the outfield (as well as a great throwing arm) so he can potentially bring value as a defensive replacement and pinch runner when / if he gets the call.

What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
It looks like LaMarre's relatively brief audition with the Angels didn't pan out. He signed with the club as a free agent this past off-season, and while he hasn't been stellar at Triple-A (batting just .261) he hasn't been dismal either. The Angels have a fairly deep outfield, so LaMarre looked like a longshot to get the call to the big club with them.

Fantasy impact
Even if LaMarre gets a look with Oakland's less-than-stellar outfield this season, he's not much of a fantasy option; he's 28 years old and has a .267 career batting average in the minors (with little home run power).
