ORIOLES GET A GOOD GLOVE-MAN IN TEJADA
The Baltimore Orioles acquired infielder Ruben Tejada from the New York Yankees for cash.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
The O's don't have a pressing need at the major-league level for a utility infielder, but they do require one at the Triple-A level (since Paul Janish was recently called up by the big club). Tejada won't wow with his bat but he has a very versatile glove (with the ability to play at shortstop, second base and third base). Tejada also has several years of experience at the big-league level, so he is a nice depth addition overall.
What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees have a lot of middle-infield depth in the minors (led by Gleyber Torres, but also including Donovan Solano, Tyler Wade, and Jorge Mateo) so Tejada became a luxury. It is a bit odd for a team to trade with a division rival (as New York is doing here with Baltimore), but the Yankees will not likely miss Tejada much, despite his solid batting production so far this season at Triple-A.
Fantasy impact
Even if Tejada gets the nod this season and returns to the majors, his value is much more as a defensive fill-in than as a batsman. Avoid him in fantasy baseball.
