RANGERS ACQUIRE LEFTY JOELY RODRIGUEZ
The Texas Rangers acquired pitcher Joely Rodriguez from the Philadelphia Phillies for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
What does it give the Texas Rangers
The Rangers have been without top left-handed reliever Jake Diekman (another former Phillie) all season after colon surgery, so they have been searching for more depth for their bullpen. Rodriguez will provide that, but little else. He is a journeyman left-hander who was struggling in the bigs this year.
What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies had designated Rodriguez for assignment recently, following an ugly 6.33 earned-run average in 27 appearances (27 IP, 37 hits, 15 BB, 18 K) with Philadelphia. He is still only 25 years old, but clearly the Phils felt comfortable letting him go and did not see a lot of potential in his left arm.
Fantasy impact
There is nothing to see here from a fantasy standpoint, as Rodriguez will likely be used merely for depth purposes by Texas.
