RAYS GET STEVE CISHEK FROM THE MARINERS
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired pitcher Steve Cishek and cash from the Seattle Mariners for pitcher Erasmo Ramirez.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa Bay has struggled to find some consistency out of their bullpen this season--aside from closer Alex Colome--so adding Cishek here makes sense. The Rays also recently added Sergio Romo and Dan Jennings, so their 'pen looks revamped heading towards the dog days of August. Tampa Bay also received a little cash in the deal to help pay for the remainder of free-agent-to-be Cishek's salary.
What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Ramirez returns to his original team with this deal. Signed as a free agent in 2007, he made his debut with Seattle in 2012 and has been used as both a reliever and starter in MLB. Now 27, the Nicaraguan right-hander will probably remain in the bullpen for the time being. Unlike Cishek, who is more of a late-inning type, Ramirez can be stretched out and be used as a long man out of the 'pen.
Fantasy impact
Both Cishek and Ramirez are somewhat limited in terms of overall fantasy value, but both may be helped by the trade. Neither are must-own relievers at this point, though.
