YANKEES, MARINERS MOVE ARMS IN SWAP

The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Nick Rumbelow from the New York Yankees for pitchers JP Sears and Juan Then.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
In Rumbelow the Mariners get a righty reliever who has proven himself in the minors. Now aged 26, Rumbelow has posted 203 strikeouts, 29 saves, and a 2.72 ERA in 126 career minor league games and showed the ability to strike out batters fairly consistently in his short stint in the majors. With all that considered he might prove a solid addition to the Mariners bullpen next season.

What does it give the New York Yankees
Both of Sears and Then are intriguing young pitchers. Sears, a lefty reliever, is a strikeout artist who is very hard to hit despite his smaller size and less-than-overpowering fastball. Meanwhile Then, a righty, is only 17 years old but was very successful as a starting pitcher for the Mariners' Dominican Summer League team this year. Both hurlers have definite sleeper potential.

Fantasy impact
For the 2017 fantasy baseball season, there is little to no fantasy impact as a result of this swap. Rumbelow is the only one of the three pitchers in this trade who is likely to see major league action next season, and he is mostly unproven at the major league level. Sears and Then are probably a few years away from any major league callups.
