JIM JOHNSON JETTISONED TO THE ANGELS

The Los Angeles Angels acquired pitcher Jim Johnson from the Atlanta Braves for pitcher Justin Kelly.

What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
In Johnson, the Angels add a veteran closer who might resume the ninth-inning role with his new team, after losing the gig in Atlanta this past season. At worst, veteran Johnson will be used as a setup man by Los Angeles. The Halos hope 34-year-old Johnson has something left in the tank.

What does it give the Atlanta Braves
For the Braves, trading veteran Johnson makes sense because of his 2017 struggles and advanced age. In Kelly, Atlanta adds a left-hander capable of pitching as both a starter and reliever in the minor leagues. He is not a top prospect by any stretch, but the 24-year-old owns decent upside.

Fantasy impact
Johnson may get another crack at closing with the Angels, so his fantasy stock is slightly on the rise again. That said, he should also come with a buyer-beware tag heading into 2018. As for Kelly, his fantasy future is very much in doubt at this time. Take a wait-and-see approach with him.
