GORDON GOES TO THE SEATTLE MARINERS

The Seattle Mariners acquired infielder/outfielder Dee Gordon and international bonus pool money in 2017-18 from the Miami Marlins for pitcher Nick Neidert, infielder Christopher Torres and pitcher Robert Dugger.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
This is an interesting move by a Seattle team that has been looking outside the box in recent years. Gordon, Miami's starting second baseman for the past three seasons, will now play center field for the Mariners. He is expected to bat leadoff and form a 1-2 punch with shortstop Jean Segura at the top of the order.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
This deal comes as no surprise to Marlins fans, who have been bracing for yet another firesale for some time now. The first to go is Gordon, Miami's leadoff man. In return, the Fish receive Neidert (a pretty good pitching prospect), Torres (a raw shortstop prospect) and Dugger (a versatile right-hander). They did not get much.

Fantasy impact
Gordon moves to the American League for the first time, after seven years in Los Angeles (Dodgers) and Miami. His fantasy value should remain static, though keep an eye on his defense in center field (he has never played there in MLB). Neidert should be on the fantasy radar, and may come more quickly now that he is with the Marlins. Torres is off the radar for now, while Dugger needs to find his niche before becoming a fantasy factor.
