ATHLETICS ADD PISCOTTY FROM ST. LOUIS
The Oakland Athletics acquired outfielder Stephen Piscotty from the St. Louis Cardinals for infielders Yairo Munoz and Max Schrock.
What does it give the Oakland Athletics
The Athletics needed a reliable, everyday outfielder because most of their current outfielders are platoon candidates or backups. Piscotty should be a nice addition to the Oakland lineup and is expected to play right field. He is a solid pickup for the A's.
What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
St. Louis had a major surplus in the outfield, so they dealt Piscotty in order to add more depth in the infield. Both Munoz and Schrock are solid prospects who could challenge for a starting gig at some point. For now, they are intriguing organizational depth.
Fantasy impact
Piscotty is due for a bounce-back campaign, after a sub-par 2017 performance on the heels of his 2016 breakthrough. Therefore, his fantasy stock is on the rise even with the move to Oakland's spacious pitchers' park. Munoz and Schrock are both on the fantasy radar as potential future starters, but for the time being they are blocked by Paul DeJong and Kolten Wong (among others).
