ANGELS ADD OUTFIELDER JABARI BLASH
The Los Angeles Angels acquired outfielder Jabari Blash from the New York Yankees for a player to be named later.
What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
The Angels have a few platoon options for right field, where Kole Calhoun should continue to receive the majority of the at-bats against right-handed pitching. Against left-handers, Blash will compete mostly with veteran Chris Young for a share of the job. Blash has some untapped upside.
What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees recently designated Blash for assignment following the acquisition of infielder Brandon Drury from the Diamondbacks. Therefore, they needed to get something (anything) in return for Blash's services. Blash was not going to see much playing time in the Bronx this season anyway.
Fantasy impact
The Young/Blash battle in spring training may not have a lot of fantasy implications, since the Angels still need to find at-bats for DH Albert Pujols, first-base options Luis Valbuena and Jefry Marte (plus the possibility of two-way Japanese sensation Shohei Ohtani seeing some at-bats at DH, too). Therefore, proceed with caution with Blash.
