BOSOX MOVE MARRERO TO THE D'BACKS
The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired infielder Deven Marrero from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named later.
What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
Marrero is a solid depth infielder option for the Diamondbacks. He is also a fairly talented player, having been drafted in the first round of the 2012 MLB draft (No. 24 overall). The Arizona State product should provide good defensive versatility for his new squad.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
Facing a roster crunch, Boston moved out Marrero (who was out of minor-league options anyway). This deal makes room to keep Brock Holt on the active roster, giving the Red Sox more offensive punch--but worse shortstop depth--coming off the bench.
Fantasy impact
This deal has little fantasy impact since Marrero is a defensively-inclined, backup infielder. That said, keep Holt on the fantasy radar in case he somehow finds himself getting more starts for Boston.
